Planning on going to Shikoku to walk the 88 temples after which we will bicycle around Japan, we were wondering if anyone knows if we can take the train from Tokyo to Shikoku with our bikes in boxes? Also storing bikes in Shikoku for 6 weeks? Thanks friends! Mark

This is REALLY HARD to do in Japan in general since there is very little extra space, normally. Westerners who are WS members in large cities may be able to help, or rural WS members. I know from experience. Using Kuro Nekko (BlackCat) luggage transfer service is a good option for transport. On a train you need a bike sack, like one made from material like ripstop nylon from ripstopbytheroll.com seconds). On a Shinkansen train reserve the end seat in a car where there's space for luggage behind the seat to store your bike bag with the wheels off and velcro strapped to the frame.
