Hello!
We are planning to ride from Fort Myers to Key West then ferry back to Fort Myers. It looks pretty straight forward but am wondering if we are underestimating the mosquito action in Feb - (dry season) as a potential deal breaker. The road can be narrow and the traffic busy and fast through the Everglades but we are planning to break the ride up a bit with short days and side trips.
Just wondering if any of you have done this ride and general thoughts/experiences.
TY!!!

Hi Lisa and Michael,
We rode Fort Myers to Key West in February and I don't recall mosquitos being particularly bad. The route is lovely.
We stayed overnight at Collier-Seminole State Park, a Warmshowers host at Big Cypress Visitor Centre, a Warmshowers host at Homestead and then a car park somewhere in Plantation Key! Highly recommend stopping at Shark Valley Visitor Center and riding round the loop.
One thing to bear in mind about Key West is camping is extremely expensive. We were lucky as a Warmshowers host in North Port put us in touch with his friend in Marathon and we stayed there.
All the best,
Chris
Thanks so much for that - reassuring indeed! Soooooo, would you be willing to share your hosts names?
Sure, I'll send you a message with details
I have a group of 16 going the second week of January. One of the campgrounds we stayed in last year it's been really slow about getting back to us. Do you think your contact could accommodate? We just need a place to set up tents close to Marathon.

Hi, unfortunately our friends in Marathon have now moved out of the area. Good luck with the campground!
We have ridden from Miami to Fort Myers via Key West a few times in the winter months. We have never had a problem. Have a great ride!
