Would I be correct in thinking it is impossible to cycle out of JFK. If that is correct, does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to get from the terminal to a road or trail suitable for a bike.

You can take the airtrain to the station federal circle and ride out from there. I have done it. That's the last station before you have to pay. There are a few bike lanes nearby as well

Esneider, "Thanks very much". Great information which will save me a lot of hassle. I see the Airtrain will take up to 4 bikes at a time and as you pointed out is free to Federal Station. I'll pay the $5 and get out at Jamaica Stn. Thanks again. Regards.
