Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyszstan Host Search - May 2013

Hi! Looking for hosts in Uzbekistan... Samarkand, Boukhara, Khiva, Termiz in May 2013.
Couchsurfing works a bit here, but not that much - registration issue with tourist visa.

Will be in Tajikistan on the Pamir Highway M41 between May 26 and June 25th.
Will be in Kyrgyzstan (Osh, Bishkek, karakol, Naryn) between June 25th and July 8th.
Thanks for the tips...

If you cannot stay with CS

If you cannot stay with CS hosts because of registration issues, why do you think it is going to be even easier with Warm Showers hosts ?

It is obvious that the government of Uzbekistan does not wish travellers to stay in unregistered accommodation. Can't you respect that? It's not like there aren't plenty of hotels in the country, and if you have to schedule your trip so that you are in a town every day by nightfall, that's just how it goes.

Uzbek registration

Hi Christopher,

If I can allow myself to answer that comment, my friend, let me explain something. First, I think that warmshowers is specific to people traveling on bicycles (!!!) and that hosts have the space to host cyclists, knowledge for where and how repare some parts, and comprehension of the lifestyle, unlike couchsurfing. This is my first cycling trip, and I'm new on this site so if I got it wrong, this is all my mistake :P

Second, I know I have given my itinerary of Uzbekistan as well, but it is also in Tajik and Kyrgyz (no need for registration) that my host request was for. Isn't that forum for?

Third, yes, yes, registration. So fare, for 2 weeks in Uzbekistan, we have met a majority of travelers without registratrion, and for different reasons : people, like us, sleeping in tent, and people traveling on big trucks and sleeping in their vehicule. Also, the law on this is very hard to get, I think, since we received very contradictory info. Example, if sleeping in the same city less than 3 nights : no need for registration - our case. Or, more comprehension for people on bicycles, that NEED to stop in citys without hotels - our case. We honestly have no idea if we will get problem at the uzbek-tajik border in few days - hopefully not. We hope to get through like our friends who got through a couple of weeks ago - not being asked at all about their registration. At first we were willing to pay 430$ (!!!) for official - but not accurate - registration and not worry for it all our journey, but it didn't work out at last minute, and now it's too late.

Anyways, you seem to know a lot about it, what is your advice? You know people that got lots of problems at uzbek border? Which border? What kind of problems? Thanks

Uzbe registration

Hi guys,
please keep us updated on the results! I'm reading a lot about this topic (caravanistan.com anybody?) It seems to all depend on skill and luck not rules so much. If your intention is to cross the border at Termez to Afghanistan let me know as I have a friend in Mazar-e-Sharif who likely can host.
Safe travels!
Sascha

Uzbek registration

Hey!

So... After 3 weeks in Uzbek., with no registration, we passed the Denaw border (Samarkand's closed, Tashkent's, the most popular) and no one bothered to ask ANY thing about any registration. Cyclists leaving from airport in Uzbek. have problem, so are cyclists going Turkmenistan. But at Denaw's, it seems that they don't see many tourists. We have been told that with cyclists with a map with all itinerary, they are more flexible. Anyways. Overall, it is a chance to take :P But haven't heard of cyclists going Tajikistan from Uzbekistan that got problems. So fare...

Now in Kirgizstan, after 3 weeks in Tajikistan on the Pamir... A-ma-zing, but god the roads are bad!

Take care and good luck :)
