Hi To all,
I really enjoy this site. I enjoy both to visit members and to receive guests. The only thing I find difficult to deal with is the answering rate when one asks to stay at somebody's place. Would it be possible to add the responsiveness on the map, along with the name and place?
This way it would really shorten the time spent looking for a host. I really select the messages I send on the rate of responsiveness. I don't see the point to ask if the rate is really low;
This said, long live warmshowers!!
Cheers
Catherine

Responsiveness is already shown on profiles. Just open each profile link from the map in a new browser tab, and then you can very quickly see the responsiveness for all the hosts you are considering contacting.
Yes, you’re right but it is my point: you have to open the profile. It seems to me it would be quicker to have it appear on the map. I generally don’t pursue my search if the responsiveness is less than 50/60%, therefore I would not even check the profile.
Do you see my point? Why bother to open, read the profile, eventually write a note if your chance are less than 1 out of 2?
It could be also that it encourages people to be more responsive. Nobody likes to see that they are not very conscientious, I guess.
Anyway, that’s what I think. Let’s see what others think about that.
Too many members score dramatically low on responsiveness. Even zero percent! And very often no feedback. WS informed me lately that those members read the forum, that's all.
Whether you can host often or sporadically or never, be polite and answer requests. Even "not available" - true lie! - is better than nothing.
I wonder why WS do not eliminate members that act like ghosts.
I wonder why they put the host label on them when they join.
I wold like it if they added a minimum % to responses I could check to include ONLY those potential hosts with more than a, say, 50% response rate. Of course, it should include those guests who have had NO requests since their reponses are neither 0% nor 100%. That said, I do appreciate all that the volunteers @ WS do.
It is always good to read someone's profile to make sure the experience will be a match. Also to know what they will and will not provide. Showing up blindly might have a few surprises. Avoid disappointment and read the host's/guest's profile.
Of course, I read potential hosts profile but I read their responsiveness first. If they have a good responsiveness, then I read their profile. That’s why I would like it if the responsiveness rate was to appear next to their name on the map. It might appear a little bit drastic but people who are on WS should be able to assume their role: to be a bonafide member, or accept to show that you are there just to read biking stories or whatever other reason that people have to be a member without really taking part. I would like to know what the board think about my suggestion.
Hi, I’m still interested in what the board thinks about my suggestion. It is REALLY cumbersome to have to open each individual profile to find out what the responsiveness rates are. It doesn’t mean that one should not read the profiles but it would speed along the process of trying to find a host. May be a statute of “curious only” member, or visitor could be introduced? If there are so many people registered just to see what’s going on, it is almost an insult to the rest of us who are careful to be reliable. It is really irking, in my opinion.
Catherine we only hope that you receive more interest than the other members who suggested this idea or any of the other ideas (filtering, sorting, not signing up members as available to host, automatically switching members with less than x% response rate after y requests to unavailable etc) that have been forwarded to ameliorate the declining site-wide response rate on Warmshowers.
Another method would be to colour or shape the marker differently for hosts with very low responsivess factors.
Perhaps a ghost image for those who've never replied to a message?
