Costa Rica Travel Advice

My wife and I are flying into Liberia, Costa Rica for a month of bike touring. Just wondering if anyone had any input on items such as how bad the roads can be, must see places, good places to camp etc. Probably sticking more to the north and central part of the country.

costa rica

Hi, I don´t know if we are on time to share our experiencies in Costa Rica. First of all, the west coast road is nice, flat and the traffic is bereable, it let´s you visit national parks and nice beach towns. The roads in the center of the country are hilly, with too much traffic and you don´t have a safe place at the side of the road, we were also told that it´s forbidden to ride on some roads, so we left he bikes and took buses. We tried to cross from San José to Limón, and we don´t recommend it, too much lorry traffic, foggy, hilly, no hard shoulders most of times. From Limón to the south is beautiful!  Pura Vida!

Thank you for this

Thank you for this information. We were going to focus on the Nicoya Penninsula as well as the Arenal area. Did you cycle in these parts?

ups! we didn´t do Nicoya

Nicoya was not in our plans, so in Tárcoles we turned right heading to San José. The Arenal area is beautiful, roads are nice, little towns taken from fairy tales and great places to hike! I just want to warn you that the Arenal area is going up and down all time, but it worth it.
