Meet Up WS Hosts

I've often wondered how many other hosts are "out there" in my region and although I can see from the map I don't know if they're active without a lot of time to investigate. Honouring my laziness I want them to let me know that. How does one organise that most efficiently ?

getting together

I am a warmshowers host in Las Cruces, New Mexico. What we have done here is reach out to the other hosts in town and keep in somewhat close contact during peak travel seasons to catch the overflow one might experience. We frequently talk to one another on the phone just to trade notes. Works well locally for us. --John Demirjian, Las Cruces, New Mexico.

I'm not sure what you're

I'm not sure what you're getting at - are you asking about the possibility to send bulk email out? That does not exist and probably never will - unfortunately you have the same inadequate tools available to you as any touring cyclists looking for a host and they are the map search and the list search - both will involve lots of random clicking.

Having said that, I just had a look at the map in your region and crikey, you can't have more than a dozen members within cooee of you. You weren't kidding when you said you were honouring your laziness...

Have reached out to several hosts in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, and hosted a few meet and greet events. Unfortunately, I only had about a 10% response rate. But I will keep trying. I will build a stronger local WS community someday.

Meet ups

Hi - I tried something similar last year. There is (for obvious reasons) a restriction on the number of messages you can send at one time on WS, but I just sent out about 50 messages over a few days to those in my city asking if there was an interest in doing something. I have to admit the response was really disappointing - only a handful showed interest and in the end just a few turned up at the agreed venue. I did ask here before if it was considered acceptable to do this, and nobody had a problem with it. I suspect the response you will get depends very much on the type of local cycling community in your area.

meet ups with hosts in area

I know 2 of the hosts in the city to the north of me and have met them in person. I have exchanged emails with a few hosts that are about a day's ride from me who have kept the same bikers I have but have not met them in person.
