A few questions about riding tandems in Japan
Is it true it is illegal to ride a tandem bicycle in Japan?
I saw on the Internet it has been made legal in a few of the prefectures? Can anybody confirm this information, ie which prefectures it is legal?
Is this law enforced?
We were hoping to do a tandem tour of Japan, but we are worried about the legal implications say we were involved in an accident?
Any advice about this would be much appreciated
Thank you

It's a few years since I've cycled in Japan, but the laws regarding tandem cycling are slowly changing. Here is link that may be of interest:

May I suggest contacting the Japan Cycling Navigator? http://www.japancycling.org/v2/
Best of luck.

Thanks Paul I will look at the links you sent
I imagine a world of difficulties with a tandem in Japan. Though some places may be better than others. Maybe Hokkaido would suit you.
Hello.
I asked to a japanese collegue, and he found that now tandems are allowed in 10 prefectures:
Hyogo, Ehime, Hiroshima, Miyazaki, Saga, Nagano, Yamagata, Nigata, Gunma and Aichi.
I hope this will help you.
Christophe.
Thank you Christophe that's very helpful
