Myself and my girlfriend are cycling througEurope towards Greece. My girlfriends knees are really painful at the minute so we've decided to take the train from Zagreb to Thessaloniki. Is it possible to take bicycles on this train? We were told at the ticket office that there's no dedicated bicycle carriage but we were hoping we could get them on anyway? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone taken the train from Zagreb to Belgrade with their bicycle?

Hi Jova,
Thanks for the info but can you take bicycles on these trains?
Serbian trein staff is no strong at rules. If exist you can pay ticket for bike or do deal with them.I think 5 euros for 2 bike is ok.
You can take bike on every train in Croatia, and you will have to pay ticket for it...it will cost you arround 5e. For domestic train you pay for bike in train, and for international route on ticket stand.
We want to take our bikes on the train from Split to Zagreb in early November. The night train that is marked as "takes bicycles" stops on the 4th of October. Croatian railways tell us (via email) that there are no bikes on the train. What is the reality? Can we load them in the last carriage and pay a fee?
Allready send you private message, but for all the others - yes, unless train is overcrowded (usually they are not). But, first talk to/ask conductor for his approval.
Ok so I thought I'd let everyone know how we got on with the bicycles on the train:
1) The train from Zagreb to Belgrade doesn't carry bicycles, not officially anyway. To get around this we bought first class tickets, 35 euro each, and convinced the train conductor to allow us take our bikes in the first class carriage at the front. The Croatian conductor charged us 7 euro for both bikes and the Serbian conductor charged us 3 euro.
2) The train from Belgrade to Thessaloniki with the bikes was a lot more straight forward. We bought couchette tickets, 41 euro each, and just put the bikes on the same carriage. I think you're supposed to pay the conductor for the bikes but he either forgot or felt sorry for us because we didn't.
Anyway alls well that ends well. Thanks to everyone for their help and hopefully the above information will help others in the future.
We are trying to do a similar thing in early November this year. Your post gives us hope.
Are these compartments? If so how many seats? If mot, were you given seat numbers and could you choose?
Nice word and (exhausted) bicyclist smile can do a miracle.. :)
