Hi, we are currently cycling Australia to Europe and are looking to do our second visa extension (or first was in Leshan - easy) in China. Can anyone recommend a place? We are thinking Golmud or Dunhuang. I know from other cyclists Golmud used to be good, but things in China seem to change rapidly and now it seems as it may not be so great. Dunhuang is our preferred place, but I can't seem to find any up to date info. Anyway, any help is much appreciated and apologies if I have missed this information somewhere.

Visa extension in Western China
Hi Jude,
Have you checked whether a second extension is possible? When we were in China last year, the rules were clear that you could only extend you l type visa by a maximum of the length of the original visa. That is, if you had a 30 day visa, you can only extend for another 30 days. End. No more extensions. This was a new rule from July last year.
Un helpfully, I can't for the life of me remember where I found this info. Probably on the thorn tree forum of lonely planet.
Really hope you get an extension.
Ash
Hi,
Thanks for the reply and information. I have started hearing about this 'no second extension' thing in recent weeks on the LP forum, but also about a cyclist who extended in Lanzhou for a second time this year. Don't really know what to think!
Just an update for anyone in a similar situation. It looks like you CAN extend for a second time in Dunhuang. We went to the PSB yesterday and the only issue seemed to be that we were too early (ironically). We went and got our photo taken and scanned into the visa paperwork and told to come back monday to submit it. See how it goes!
Successfully submitted second Visa extension in Dunhuang. Pick up the next day. 30 days from date of application. 168 RMB plus 48 RMB for photo that is scanned into paperwork.
