Heading off on Trans America May 1st. Too early??

Hello.
I'm a newbie.
I'm wanting to head out from Astoria, Or...headed east. Leaving next week, May 1st, 2023. Am I too early? Too much snow? Too cold? I'm open to suggestions of other routes across the country should I be too early. Thank you.
