Covid-19 (coronavirus) crisis - situation in Austria (14th of March 2020), last update 15th of March -

If you decide to pedal through Europe in time of severe Covid-19-problems we think it is good to be well informed. We try to give a short summary about current situation in Austria (14th of March)

Borders: closed from Italy and they started controls from Switzerland.
Closed to Czech Republic and Slovakia. NEW: Germany will close border to Austria

The German Robert-Koch-Institute classified the Austrian federal state Tyrol (capital Innsbruck) as high risk area (same level as privince Hubei in China, Iran, Italy,...)

Public transport: at that time running normally in Austria and to some neighbor countries, but no trains/buses from Italy, to Czech Republic and Slovakia

Public and social life: we are asked/forced to reduce social contacts to a minimum. Schools and universities are closed. Lots of employees do teleworking...
NEW: ban on going out starting Monday 16th of March: everybody has to stay at home except for working, to help others and to buy food.

On Monday, 16th of March all shops will stay closed except supermarkets, farmacies, drugstores and post offices. So if you have a technical problem you won't find a bike shop open. In that case we suggest to contact local Warmshower member, maybe she/he can help you.
Starting also on Monday, 16th restaurants, food stalls, coffee shops... have to close at 3 p.m.
Toltal closure of restaurants, coffee shops.... will start Monday 16th.
These two restrictions should last for 1 week and then we will see.

Situation can change very quickly. We try to update.
Greetings from Danube Valley

Thanks for this! :-)

So in theory there is no problem at all to just cross from Germany on my bike (alone, no social gatherings!).

I can even go to supermarkets and buy food (before 3 PM).

Perfect!

Thanks again

no more udates - please think of stopping your touring in Europe

We won't update informations any more. On one hand situation is changing very quickly in we have to cope with it.

On the other hands some cyclists think that now they have lots of space on hte streets, top view to the sights without tourists - please think of stopping your trip through Europe!!!!
If you are in the country and you have problems you can contact us on private message.

Greetings
Michaela and Herbert
