2020 late July Europe to Singapore (Update)

Update: I've had to delay my trip due to some surgery so will start in Europe summer time.

I'm 31 from New Zealand. Looking at starting in late July 2020 so plenty of time to prepare, starting in London? then most likely Scotland, Ireland and then Austria heading up towards Finland looping around the Nordic countries and back down towards Germany

Planning on spending a fair bit of time in Europe before heading towards Turkey

First time doing a long tour, so will be starting of reasonably slow till I get the rhythm. Will be going solo however happy to find some people to join.

Prefer free camping and every 4-5 days getting a place to clean up. warm showers, splitting the cost on paid camping, hotel, guesthouse.

Hi Josh

leaving Europe in March. Unfortunately in the opposite direction. Think a meetup in Central Asia could be possible.

Eastern part of Turkey can be tough and tricky. Highly recommend to cross Armenia and Georgia.

Take care.

Hi Peter thanks for the heads

Hi Peter thanks for the heads up, my list actually does include Armenia and Georgia so I may go through there instead. And yeah could well meetup somewhere along the way.

Will keep in touch when I'm heading off.

Josh.

Hi Josh,

Hi Josh,

I'm interested in joining you if it's possible. I'm currently in Beijing but I can also start from Singapore or Padang in Indonesia (my hometown). Your cycling profile seems to match mine so I think I can be a good company. I'm very open as to where the wheels take me and I hope my savings can allow me stay on the road for quite a while.  My email is arethanasroen@hotmail.com, hit me up there!

I might be interested as well

I might be interested as well!

Planning to go to Indonesia beginning of November and to stay there for about 4-5 months, after that - no idea, but cycling back to Europe sounds tempting. Will have my camping gear with me, but no bicycle. Besides, I'm not good cyclist, and got no clue about bicycle repairs.

So, if someone could help me getting a decent bike (no need to be something posh and fancy) in Indonesia - count me in.

Would be good if you share your more detailed plans, especially the living costs, I'm afraid I need lots of visas for the Asian countries despite being an EU citizen.

sounds like fun. what do you

sounds like fun. what do you figure the cost will be for all the visas needed? also, many countries in asia dont allow land border crossings. will you be flying sometimes because of that? be safe!

Hi James,

Hi James,

I havent calculated a figure for all the visas, just going to take it as it comes. All of the countries that I plan on going through have land border crossings.

Do you have any example countries that dont allow land crossings?

Hi Josh :-)

Hi Josh,

Nice plan and even better traveling philosophy — taking it one step at a time as things come your way.

Although I hope you have lots of time, because you seem to be doing a “little” detour going to Northern Europe before truly heading where the Sun rises :-)

I’m currently thinking of starting my trip 1st April from Germany destination China/Japan, but I’m looking into the most remote, off-the-beaten-path Silk Route.

Which countries don’t have land border-crossings?

What’s tough and tricky in Eastern Turkey? ;-)

Georgia and Azerbaiyan sound awesome and epic scenery, anyone know anything about Tayikistan or Uzbekistan?

Cheers and safe travels to everyone,

I have plenty of time as part

I have plenty of time as part of the plan to take it as it comes and see where I end up, I have no specific deadline to be anywhere and hope to end up in Singapore at some stage.

Good luck with your trip and keep safe.

This is a good read for some tips/pointers on how an Englishman made it across, might help with some of your questions however its a few years old now. One of the trickier parts would prob be getting the Chinese visa as I'm not sure any conulates allow it if your not from the country you are appling in.

Hi

at most chinese consulates you can apply the visa. Be sure to have it in advance. NO CHANCE to get it in Central Asia.

Will try my luck in Ulan Bator. Mongolia will be worth a visit.

Thanks Peter that is handy

Thanks Peter that is handy info to have, will have to try get it on the way before Central Asia and try for one that is valid for 6 months.

Hi

Standard is that chinese visa is valid for 3 month. You have to be pretty fast.

Btw: Turkish stamps aren't a good idea. Some applications were rejected.

Thanks again, I had read

Thanks again, I had read somewhere about Turkish stamps being declined. I was going to apply for a 6 month multiple entry visa, maybe in Georgia if reports are going well for that embassy.

I plan on starting in Munich

I plan on starting in Munich on July 27th and will ride down towards Bosnia. If that is around your time frame, would be cool to have a companion.

Hi Edo, I will be heading off

Hi Edo, I will be heading off from London around the 24th of July, however I will be heading north up into Scotland and then to Ireland, maybe over to Iceland then Austria.

I dont think our paths will cross at the same time sadly.

Good luck with your trip and stay safe
