Dear fellow bikers,
I'm looking for people who have done the EuroVelo (EV) 6 Route from Donaueschingen to Passau, or even beyond, in mid-late August.
We're somewhat bound to these dates due to school holidays, although we've tried to push it as far into August as possible - in an attempt to avoid the biggest biker and tourist crowds! We're not so much into wild camping, especially as we have a toddler with us, and picture ourselves staying at a mix of campings, guest houses or B&B's (and WS-hosts if that works out).
How crowded is the route at this time?
How "in demand" is accommodation - camping, guest houses, B&B's at this time?
Is it at all realistic for us to plan our bike stages spontaneously / day-by-day / without reserving in advance, given we want to stay flexible based on weather and toddler mood?
Any advice welcome!
And any "favorite" pit-stop suggestions, also!
Thanks to all, E.
Hi,
living in Linz we can say that EV 6 = Danube Cycle Path is super crowed also in August.
But if you plan your trip a little bit different to the mass it is possible to have a good time and find nice places. Most of the people stop in Linz. Campground here is tiny and very crowed; small Pleschinger lake becomes extremly warm in summer (today 27 degrees). There are other possibilities near - although we never camped there we suggest Ausee (we go there for swimming, today water temperature 23 degrees). Friends told us that campsite Au/Donau is very nice.
Greetings from Danube valley
