I'm cycling from Ottawa to Montreal, beginning Monday. Looking into route options and still deciding. E.g. north or south of the river. Any suggestions? Main consideration is would prefer cycle ways with minimal traffic...But want to only take 2 days (am fairly fit so 100km per say will be fine)

Hi, I've lived in Ottawa almost all my life... I've done the route from Ottawa to Montreal a couple of times, but I've done the route up to a music camp north of Lachute every year since 1986. I really like 148 (which is also Velo-Quebec Route Verte #1), particularly now that highway 50 diverts most of the fast and hostile traffic, leaving RVs, motorcycles, convertibles and local traffic. I then I leave that and head north up into the hills just before Grenville/Hawkesbury, but you would continue straight. From Hawkesbury I recommend 344 which has a good portion of cycle track to St. Eustache. I don't have any particular recommendations through Laval into Montreal. I did that route in a day each there and back in 2009. Call if you have questions (613 860 2354).
