Hi there,
My name is Henry, and I'm flying from Oakland, California to Barcelona on April 3. I plan to spend a few days in Barcelona (I'm hopeing to see FC Barca's home match on April 8th) before heading north. I'll be flying from Paris back to the States the 19th of May.
I don't have a route set in stone yet, and I was curious if anyone on here had any recommendations or highlights anywhere along a potential route. I know it could be snowy, but I was curious about crossing the Pyranees. I would love to get into some elevation, but I realize this might not be the best season for it.
I hope to camp and use warm showers when I can. Does anyone have any advice about camping in northern Spain and France?
I'm trying to do this on the cheap, but I'm also interested in eating good food, playing/watching soccer, and listening to live music.
Any info, tips or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for taking a look!
-Henry
Hi Henry,
You've picked the perfect time of year for this route, not too hot, not too cold, aahhh just right! I wouldn't worry about snow at all. If you cross the Pyrenees up where we live there are several routes over the mountains, some with great views, elevation and some just plain easy. It's still a little early in the season for most campsites to open, although where we live there are a couple open all year. Wild camping is a piece-of-cake in Spain and France, don't over analyse or research this one, just tuck yourself in the sand dunes, a small wood or behind a hedge with lovely morning views and you'll be just fine. Use a combination of WS, camping and off-season rate hostels.
By all means, swing by our place for a night or two, and we would be most happy to discuss routes, etc. Sign-up for WhatsApp, it's the primary way of chatting over here and give us a call. Cheers, Richard y Sandy.
Hi Richard and Sandy!
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I appreciate you taking the time to post. That all sounds great! I'll be sure to get WhatsApp and send you a message as I get closer to my trip.
Talk to you soon!
