Hello cyclers,
I couldn't find a post about this, but if so please tell me. I'm having a hard time buying a bicycle at the moment. The amount of shops is promising in my experience, but the lack of English speaking sellers makes it hard for me. My lack of bicycle knowledge isn't helping either. I also feel like the price is or too cheap to be good or to expensive for my budget ( max 2,5 milj). I feel like some will say that price is to low, but as a person who's new to this way of travelling I would like to start of small. Plus, I always liked it the thrifty budget way. I know some of you know what I mean. I've been looking for a good second hand website, FB page and a street. My best find was Lang street, where there are at least five (?) Bicycle shops selling new and used. Again I had a hard time communicating without English speakers and someone knowing what I need for my long-distance travel.
I really hope someone can help me on this one!
interested in biking Vietnam too, when are you going?
How far are you going? If you are just cycling around Vietnam and aren't taking much with you then any bike will do. If you are going further, particularly into Laos or Cambodia where the roads aren't so good then in your price range you'd be better off with a mountain bike. I don't know much about Hanoi because I live in Saigon but try checking out Jett or Martin/Asama bikes. They are made in Vietnam so are cheaper. You should be able to find something for around 2.5 - 3 million. Also Guim at the Hanoi bicycle collective might be able to help you find a bike.
Good luck
