Hi, has anyone got any recommendations or experiences of crossing the Alps at this time of year? We are currently close to Strasbourg and are heading for the Croatian coast. We are up for a challenge but not willing to risk our safety.... It is hard to find any information on the Internet from people who have tried any cycling routes in October. Brenner seems low-ish but is there still risk of snow?
Any help gratefully appreciated!
I'm living in the Southern French Alps, in the mercantour National Park and I can host you if you wish. Bur the Pass of La Cayolle (between Gap and Nice) will be closed as soon as the first snow falling.
Have a good trip. Paquito
Hi Paquiteo
Thanks for the reply and the kind offer. In the end we sped up our trip in search of warmer weather and crossed the San Gottard pass in Switzerland. We were lucky with the weather, nit was clear and sunny (but cold) and although there was plenty of snow around, the road had been cleared and we just had to be careful of frost. Unsurprisingly we saw no other cyclists up there!
Thanks again
Jo
