Have just finished cycling the Nullarbor from Norseman to Ceduna and wanted to quickly post this warning about Nundroo Roadhouse.
We rang Nundroo and asked if we could have a food parcel sent to them (supplies aren't great along the Nullarbor and what you can get is rather expensive) We did this for several of the roadhouses as we planned to cycle at a leasurely pace and do some stuff off the main highway too. We were told yes (as did all the roadhouses we asked).
When we arrived at Nundroo they very very nastily denied having received it despite the fact that it was personally delivered by friends of ours. We rang our friends and they confirmed that they had left it with the manageress who was the person who yelled at us "I don't have time for this".
we asked our friends to phone the roadhouse (we assumed it had just been forgotten as the parcel was delivered 2 weeks before we arrived) which they did. It didn't make any difference - just caused the "bully boy" to come out and have another go at us.
There didn't seem much we could do so we just cycled off towards Penong. The next day we met another cyclist who told us he'd had problems there too. When we arrived in Ceduna we went to the tourist office and said we'd had a "delicate matter" about one of the roadhouses - we didn't want to cause trouble - just to ask the tourist office to let other cyclists know if they came in asking for information. Before we even said which roadhouse we were talking about the guy atthe desk said "Nundroo?". He told us that they had a plethora of complaints about it.
So just a quick word of advice - don't have food parcels delivered there (ends up rather expenisve to have all your fodder nicked in the middle of the desert) and make sure you fill up with enough water at Nullarbor or Penong so that you don't need to stop there. If you could pass this on to any other cyclists you may know that are crossing the Nullarbor we'd apprecaite it.
We'll eventually write a report about the crossing so if anyone's interested don't hesitate to get in touch.

This sounded too familiar. "Bicycle Touring in Australia" bty Leigh Hemmings suggested that the southern section spanning some of Western Australia and South Australia was hostile territory not just for the landscape but some of the residents as well.

I haven't cycled there(yet)but this isn't the first time I've heard the same story about the same place. I've even heard that they have refused to supply cyclists water unless they are willing to pay an incredible amount. I'll make sure I'm stocked up before I get there and perhaps just stop in to give them a hard time ;o)
