Hi,
I am currently going north to somewhere in Norway. Eventually I will turn south and aim for Portugal. I have done some research and asked some cyclists I have met, it looks like all the campings in France and Spain close for the season at the end of September or beginning of October.
Does anyone know if this is the case ? Even if it is not exactly explicitly legal, is it accepted with wild camping ?
I'm probably entering France just south of Luxembourg in beginning of October and then I will ride more or less straight to Biarritz. Aiming to be in south west of Portugal before christmas.
Thanks in advance for any input or advice,
/TC
Your correct in saying camp sites will be closed, however while it is illegal to wild camp, from personal experience as long as you keep out of sight, go in late and leave early. You should be fine. Be aware though it is likely to be hunting season and so you need to be very aware of where you camp. Hunters with dogs are not always aware of anything other than there target, it's also likely to be mushroom season and the collectors of mushrooms don't take kindly to someone spoiling that.
However go for it enjoy your trip!

In France wild camping (staying a few nights in the same place) is "illegal" but bivouac (staying 1 night from dusk till dawn) is tolerated.
In some protected areas ("parc naturel"...) bivouac is not allowed but if you don't leave the place dirty or make a fire, it is fine.
Hi,
thanks for the info, its was more or less what I suspected.
I am thinking that I should bring a smaller tent than my hilleberg nammatj 3 gt, its not very stealth at all.
I plan to stay away from big cities and ride the country side as much as possible, would it be feasible to find other accommodation at say average 35 Euro/night ?

Depending on where you are willing to stay, €35 is feasible . Not necessarily great!
