Anyone going to northern Finland/Sweden/Norway in July?

Hello

Are there anyone (single or group of bicyclers) who is bicycling to northern Scandinavia in the beginning of July? I'm situated in west coast of Finland, about 600km north of Finland's capital Helsinki. I could join to your caravan for example 2. July or 3. July and could cycle together some days to Tromsö/Nordkapp/Alta etc. I'm a married male so I will not join to women's caravan :)

Scandinavia in July

Rolf,

We (my wife and I) are flying into Tromsø on July 5 and plan to do a little loop in the north of Norway/Sweden/Finland before heading back to Narvik by July 21 to meet another couple. Then the 4 of us are heading south along the Lofoten Islands and along the Norwegian coast to Trondheim and further south towards Oslo or Göteborg.

North

Hej,
I am on a tour to the North now, hoping to reach Örnsköldsvik tomorrow. My plan is described here, http://tomascarlsson.info/2013/05/06/t-minus-2-3-weeks/. I hope to be in Finland, or at least between Luleå and Pajala in 4 weeks. I am open to riding together with someone for parts of my trip.

If this is something that works with your plans, keep in touch.

Hej Tomas

Kanske det behöver för mycket att planera våra tidtabellar att träffa i Pajala. Du har mycket tid att använda om du vill cykla till Pajala fyra veckor :)

English version: adjusting our calendar to match meet in Pajala is maybe too difficult. Your route is interesting, however. Vardö should be a good destination!

Hej Rolf,
I am not in a hurry, I need to get used to the weight of my bike. When you say that my route is "interesting" I hope you mean that in a good way :-) Or do you know something I dont ? :-) I am not 100.00% committed to it yet, I might the more southern and more populated route.

Well, my speed is picking up, maybe I will meet you along the roads above Inari or maybe even on my way south from Norway.

You had me worried that the route between Pajala and Inari was full of trolls and man eating bears :-)

Do you know if its a good cycling route ? Google streetview and terrain maps doesnt show anything to worry about. I dont mind gravel roads.

Pajala to Inari

Hah!
The trolls are in their caves in daytime so don't worry.
There is a gravel road between Sirkka and Pokka (about 45km). There should be nothing to worry about. It's real "vildmark".

Hej Rolf,
I'm now in Töre and will turn north for Pajala.

I am looking at the route between Sirkka and Inari (~180 km). I will probably need two days for that stretch. I started to look in to all the little dots that looks like towns on the map, but its seems to be just a few houses.

Do you know if there are any services between Sirkka and Inari ? Like any shops, campings, hostels, or anything ? Or where I could find out ?

I am considering to take Kittilä - Sodankylä instead, seems to be more services along that route and then E75.

Is this part of Finland Swedish speaking or is it Finnish only ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

At first, I haven't been driving between Sirkka and Inari. But I know it's a long and lonely etappe. There is a small village "Pokka" with maybe 10 inhabitants :) There is some kind of bar somewhere there. Those villages are like ones I visited in Arjeplog kommun (Skuppe, Rio etc). Only one or couple of houses :)

Kittilä-Sodankylä is better because you get more easily food. They speak Finnish and Sámi languages there. Not swedish or "meän kieli".

with my speed I think I will be turning south in Norway in 3 weeks and then be in Inari going south in another 2-3 weeks.

So maybe we will meet on the E75 somewhere then :-)

Hello, My journey plan don't

Hello,

My journey plan don't really fit neither date nor the part of the Scandinavia mentioned in the topic BUT... :) I encouraged myself to post a comment as I belive I might find a good ideas among your party ;).

We are going to Norway on 13th of June to start the cycling all mountain loops from the Hajfell bike park on 15th then move further west to Stavanger and back to Tonsberg. The plan is that each loop will be the sightseeing through and along the most incredible places of this part of Norway. We will be moving around in a car to get to most places during 8 days, so we're quite flexible with what can be cycled during this time.

We deffinitely want to travel a little in Hallingskarvet, Hardangervidda and Folgefonna. And of course, we need to see the Preikestolen and Kjerag first hand! :) Maybe any of you could recommend me some interesting places that we deffinitely should visit during our fist bicycle journey in Norway? And of course if any of yours plans have changed - feel free to joing us! :)

Hi,
I'm on lousy wifi so I didnt put a lot of time in to looking the places up, but it sounds like you're going to the south of Norway ?

In 2006 I went by car from the russian border all along the coast to Lofoten. I would recommend going to Lofoten and areas around if you can. Its amazing, just like south of New Zealand.

Just remember that the speeding tickets are even more traumatic than the cost of living. I plan to spend very little time in Norway as its insane expensive.

Just my 2 cents.
