Hi WS community! I am new here, and I aspire to bike across the United States (TransAmerica, east to west) starting in July. Uncertain times make it difficult to plan for the future right now, so I am wondering if people will be hosting this summer or if I should reconsider this trip for later on. What are your thoughts? Just curious!

Leanna, WS recently changed their forums. It basically sucks now. I would suggest you try CrazyGuyonaBike.com or the Adventure Cycling Forums in the future. To answer your question (which has been asked a few times on other sites), is that most are doing a wait and see approach. I would NOT count on WS being open until the virus is under control. Sorry. However, on the TA, there are a ton of camping spots (use the ACA maps and they tell you where) so you will not NEED WarmShowers plus there are not enough WS anyway to cross the country so you would either need to camp or hotel it most of the time. Yes, WS is great, but the new admin is radically changing things around.

I am open to hosting. Just had three cyclists stay last night. I blelieve what you may encounter the most is local governmental restrictions. At the least I am willing to offer a place in the yard to set up a tent. Otherwise I usually have a room available in the house.
