I just found this site about a week ago, so it's unfortunate that I'm just about to leave for my tour. regardless, it would be great to meet up with other riders.
I'm planning on riding to montreal from philadelphia, leaving Tuesday morning (July 21). I plan on riding mostly up the state PA route to Hancock, NY and then over the catskills to the hudson valley into Albany. Not really sure where I'll be going from there, Would like to spend a night or maybe two in green mountain forest in VT, though i would also like to see the adirondacks a bit. If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears.
must-see suggestions along that general route would be welcome, as would specific route suggestions. I'm doing much of this on a wing and a prayer, and using google to suggest routes for the most part.

Have you long distance cycle toured previously?
Are you planning to camp and are you traveling self contained with cooking and camping gear (tent/pad/sleeping bag)?
I am from Vermont and can suggest that the Vermont side of Lake Champlain offers some wonderful cycling without too much climbing. Would suggest taking the Ticonderoga Ferry (bridge out) and proceeding north on VT side. Also unless there is a real good reason to "dive into" cities of any size I strongly recommend keeping to small cities and towns. Make sure you take your Passport or don't plan on being able to reenter the USA!!

I live a day's ride north of Philadelphia, and Anne and I hosted Rigel last night (June 21). He is a fascinating and worthwhile dude, with the wisdom of someone decades his senior, and I heartily recommend hosting him. The conversation will be totally excellent. If that isn't possible, then find out where he'll be, show up there, and bring some good pale ale!
Anyone know if rigel made it back?
I'm planning to try for the same tour in August.
