Pacific coast highway in February?

Curious to know what cycling the Pacific Coast Highway is like in winter, I'm planning on going from L.A. to San Francisco on the coast, then inland to Nevada City in late February. Are campgrounds open? How's the weather?

Cheers

Weather all around the country

You can check out and "lurk" for free on the SOLO-NET website. It is neat and for folks who live full time or travel a lot in RV's, Most of them are in that area and they are all commenting all the time on the weather. Especially lately!!! they tend to be very neighborly like the warmshowers folks.

First you are going in the

First you are going in the wrong direction. Prevailing winds are from north to south. The wind is very strong and blows constantly. You will be in for a long hard ride.

February is one of the rainiest months of the year on the PCH.

Also there is little reason to start in LA unless you live there. If you are intent on going south to north then Lompoc or SLO would be a better starting point. It is a long hard climb up to Lompoc from SBA.
