Downloadable CSV memberlist

It is a good and important feature, because you can put it on a gps when you don't have internet access for the app.
To have stop this feature for security reason is not a good reason !

Recipe for abuse

Given that WS now has 80,000 members and is growing at 20,000+ members per year I would say security is an entirely sufficient reason to remove the export to csv option. WS is not the same community of 5 or 6 thousand members when I joined and one had to write personally to the registrar to become a member. All fine to complain about it as a guest but perhaps you should ask how many hosts want their personal information to be in an easily distributed format off-site - I know I don't.

I really understand the

I really understand the argument of protecting personnal information, but I speak about a GPS feature.
You don't need personnal information for a GPS feature, just pseudo, latitude and longitude.
Do you think there is more security problem with a off-site file than with the app ?

Sorry, I've actually never

Sorry, I've actually never seen the old csv file, I assumed the export to csv option was there for members to be able to have hosts' contact details offline - perhaps you could describe under what circumstances it would be useful to have just hosts' longitude and latitude data on a gps?

As for the app I have no idea, I've never used it - are there glaring security problems with it?

Hello,

Hello,
Reviving this topic...back in 2010-2011 I was using the csv lists to be able to text members while offline on the road - it was much more convenient than having to connect to the internet to get in touch.
But even now, I think it'd be way easier to have some sort of offline list: not everyone stays connected on the road.
Is there anyway to store the info of hosts along a route for offline use?
