big cardboard boxes are very useful in India, so not easy to find.
Did you contact your airline? Most of them sell some (Air France usually for few dozens euros).

Try this way. Pack it like that then wrap in strong plastic. Something like from a bed mattress.
Mine arrived in Calcutta with barely a marl on the plastic.
